How governmental outsiders—often underprivileged or marginalized groups—have taken action to try to change certain aspects of the government.

This week’s readings focus on the interactions of government and various marginalized peoples.
From the Black Live Matter to the Occupy Wall Street movements in recent years, we have seen
how governmental outsiders—often underprivileged or marginalized groups—have taken action
to try to change certain aspects of the government. The above-noted movements were less
focused on land issues than they were on the treatment of certain people by governmental or
commercial institutions.
In recent years in Louisiana, there have been movements by various marginalized groups that
DO focus on land use issues. These are not always related to urban land uses; but have also dealt
with rural land use issues and how certain uses disproportionately impact marginalized or
underrepresented peoples. Look into this topic. How have the voices of underrepresented or
marginalized people in Louisiana (do not feel like you have to focus only on New Orleans)
worked to be heard? What are the issues that they are concerned about? Have these efforts to be
heard worked and have they changed the way that various governmental or commercial plans or
activities are accomplished?
Remember, this needs to focus on land issues, not just activism. You do not have to cover all of
the issues that may have come up. You can focus on one or more. Like I said: do some research
if you have to

What do you think about it?

Question designers need to avoid specific wording problems. For example, they should avoid leading questions or double-barreled questions. What do you think about it? Elaborate with sample questions and the possible answers. Embed course material concepts, principles, and theories (which require supporting citations), along with two scholarly peer-reviewed references in support of your answer. Be sure to support your statements with logic and argument, citing all sources referenced.

Are our own customs with respect to the care of the body irrational?

Answer 1 of the questions below. Answer has to be 350 words single spaced! No outside sources article will be provided. NO PLAGARISM
1. According to Miner, what functional beliefs underlie Nacirema body rituals? (What are the purposes for them?)
2. Miner treats Nacirema behavior in caring for the body as “ritual.” Is it? What makes something “ritual” as opposed to “habit” or “custom”?
3. How do the Nacirema view the human body and health? How is this similar or dissimilar to how our culture views these things?
4. Some would say that Miner’s analysis exoticizes the Nacirema and makes them seem mysterious and irrational. What in his writing dose this? Does presenting customs as “religion” rather than as “science” or “medicine” inevitably make them seem irrational to people in our own culture?
5. Are our own customs with respect to the care of the body irrational? In what ways is scientific medicine different from others (“religious”) belief systems? How much of what human beings do in everyday life is “rational” or “irrational”? Do you think that there are cultural differences in the very concept of the term ‘rational’?

Death penalty

Each student will be required to explain both sides of a current issue within the criminal justice system. The system is comprised of law enforcement, courts, and corrections. This means you can explore anything from prisons and jails to the United States Supreme Court. Below are examples of topics that have been debated recently or had legislation changes associated with. You can pick one of them or you can come up with your own, but please make sure it is directly related with the criminal justice system. With any suggested policy change, there are proponents and opponents. You are to address both sides of the argument on the issue. You must clearly identify opposing arguments for the current issue with section headers; i.e. “Arguments for” and “Arguments against.”
It is to be typed in a Microsoft Word document using Times New Roman, 12 pt font, double-spaced, one-inch margins, and no less than two pages in length.
Examples:
Immigration and crime
Gun control
Death penalty
Private prisons
Rehabilitation
Racial profiling
